Susan K. (Kerrigan) Williams

Susan K. Williams died Oct. 30, at age 76, in Yardley, PA. Susan had a life long love of story telling by way of writing, acting, filmmaking and film studies; a love which included in particular the crime drama genre. In addition to penning a detective novel, Susan wrote stories and scripts and spent countless hours doing research into police procedures and story locations to inform her writing. To the delight of at least some of her then young nieces and nephews, she sold scripts for the G I Joe and Transformers television series. Later Susan attended Sisters in Crime sessions and effectively turned numerous relatives and friends into avid readers of Donna Leon, Ian Rankin, John Lescroart, Charles Todd, Louise Penny and other crime serialists. At one point in her sojourn in California, Susan worked part time at a law firm to allow herself more time for her creative writing.

Susan was the second of eight children of John J. and Mary G. Kerrigan, who predeceased her. The family moved from Wilmington, DE, where she was born, to Newtown, PA, when she was in the 4th grade. Susan received her BA in 1966 from The Pennsylvania State University. Following that, while taking graduate courses at Miami University of Ohio, she met and later married William Rockwell Williams. The couple separated in 1978, and were divorced.

Susan was in the MFA film program at Temple University and the Ph.D film program at the University of Iowa before heading to California and numerous film industry jobs, as well as volunteering as a Big Sister. She later switched gears to study to become an accountant, first working for a large furniture manufacturer in Los Angeles and, upon returning to Pennsylvania in 2000, for Main Line Health in Paoli.

Susan is survived by her seven siblings: John J. Kerrigan, Jr. (Catherine) of Lambertville, N.J., Kathleen Kerrigan (Christopher Orr) of Doylestown, P.A., Stephen Kerrigan (Margaret) of Newtown, P.A., Thomas Kerrigan (Ruth) of Huntingdon Valley, P.A., Mary Jane K. Leonard (John) of Newtown, P.A., Carolyn K. Miller (Harold) of Holland, P.A., and Michael Kerrigan of Morrisville, P.A. In addition, she is survived by her numerous nieces and nephews who fondly remember their Aunt’s keen interest in all of their endeavors, as well as by her grand nieces and nephews.

Due to the current Pennsylvania Covid-19 restrictions limiting attendance at funerals, a celebration of life will take place at a later date.
