Lucy B. (Bugbee) Burns

June 5, 1921 — June 1, 2019

Lucy Bugbee Burns (Molly) died peacefully on Saturday, June 1, 2019, just 4 days shy of her 98th birthday.  She was born on June 5, 1921 in Trenton, NJ to the late Benjamin and Margaret (Tindall) Bugbee.

Lucy graduated from Trenton High School in 1939. She met Richard Lewis Burns at work (CV Hill) and they were married in 1945.

Lucy moved to Morrisville with Richard several years later.  She joined the Morrisville Presbyterian Church in 1947. At the time of her death, she had been a member for 72 years. Lucy was always active in the church. She was a Sunday School teacher, the President of the Women’s Circle, an Elder and on the Presby Homes Auxiliary (which introduced her to her most recent home at Rosemont Presbyterian Village.)

As a young woman, Lucy was a member of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. This lead to more than 50 years of genealogical research into the family ancestry.

Her years in Morrisville kept her very busy. In addition to her church work, she was active in the Morrisville Historical Society, the Girl Scouts, the high school Band Boosters, a volunteer (Chaplain’s Assistant) at Mercer Hospital (Capital Health). She volunteered for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK). Lucy held secretarial jobs in the Morrisville School System and the The Lawrenceville School.

At Rosemont, Lucy served a term as the Resident Association President, and was a member of the Stamp Project Committee. She also used her talents and worked on the 50th Anniversary Quilt Project and the Praise Banner dedicated to Rosemont in 2010. She volunteered in the Beaupre Shop. In 2006 Lucy received The President’s (George W. Bush) Volunteer Service Award

Lucy loved putting puzzles together, playing Scrabble and Bridge, knitting and counted cross stitch. Many friends and family members enjoyed receiving her hand-painted greeting cards.

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Benjamin, and her sister Mary Van Horn. She is survived by three children, Susan Simon (Michael), Sara Burns, and Donald Burns (Carol Hill), two grandchildren, Jerimy Simon and Kabrini Simon, and her great-grandson Spencer LePage.  She is also survived by nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at 1 PM at the Rosemont Presbyterian Village, 404 Cheswick Place, Rosemont, PA.  Her interment will be in the Morrisville Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden next to her husband.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Lucy's name may be made to the Rosemont Presbyterian Village Friendship Fund, 404 Cheswick Pl, Rosemont, PA 19010. 610-527-6500.
