Leonard Maurice Pursell, Jr.

January 23, 1956 — January 27, 2023

Canton, CT

Len left us all on January 27th.  He was born in Trenton, NJ on January 23rd and was predeceased by his parents Leonard M. Sr. and Anna Hazel. He leaves behind his loving wife Jeannette, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, his nieces, nephew, many aunts, uncles, cousins, loyal longtime friends and professional associates that will miss him greatly.

Len graduated from Bishop Egan HS and PennCo Tech. He majored in Oceanography & Earth Science at Millersville University. He then started his professional career with the Bucks County PA Vector Control Unit.

An opening came at New Jersey Automatic Door in 1982. And there he managed the warranty department with 5 direct reports. He moved to Besam Automated Entrances in the Engineering Department working with their design and product development teams. He trained hundreds of technicians, office staff and management to be code compliant in the industry. He excelled with his role as a trainer and expert witness. Len loved the travel associated with his industry. He traveled to 50 states and 16 countries to make a positive difference in the automated entrance industry. Recently his 41 years took him and his wife to Connecticut at Stanley Black & Decker.  He joined the Access Technologies team as their Codes and Compliance Manager. And as the company liaison to UL he facilitated testing of the company’s products for compliance to industry standards.

Len actively participated in many industry associations. He was a vital part of AAADM, American Association of Door Manufacturers which he was a charter member, expert trainer and recently held the position of president being elected for 2 consecutive terms.

With another association BHMA, Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association. He was appointed to several subcommittees for power doors, integrated doors, exit devices, architectural glass and ICU/medical power doors as well.

Len was a recipient of the Marquis Who’s Who in America and the World, 3 years consecutively. He recently received The Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award which honors international individuals who have demonstrated leadership, excellence and longevity within their respective industries and professions. One week before his passing he represented the automatic door industry on Capitol Hill in Washington DC with the Americans with Disability legislators.

Len was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. He achieved his 4th degree and was a charter member and formally held the title of Legal Advocate at Our Lady of Guadalupe Council in Buckingham, PA.    And a member in good standing at UNCAS council in Unionville, CT

A die-hard Philadelphia Eagles and Philadelphia Phillies fan. John Wayne was his idol.

Len loved to fish anywhere and was particularly proud when he caught the “big one” , a 150 lb sturgeon in the Columbia River Gorge. He felt comfortable in the woods and mountains, loved camping and boating with his wife and friends and looked forward to retiring to the mountains of Pennsylvania.

He loved cats all his life and missed them greatly, especially his John “T” Chance, a little 2 pound kitten he rescued. He participated in dog rescue with his wife and left behind his two much loved rescues, Diamond and little Mika.

Len had many close friends all over the world and will be greatly missed by all of them.

Rest easy big guy…we got this!
