William A. Pogany

William A. Pogany, age 89, of Morrisville, PA, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Chandler Hall Hospice, Newtown, PA. Born in River Rouge, MI, he was a lifelong Morrisville resident.Prior to his retirement in 1988, he was employed as a structural engineer with Amtrak for many years. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church in Levittown, where he was active in the choir and was the coach of the soccer team. William was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Knights of Columbus and served on the Morrisville School Board for 8 years. He was Cub Master of Cub Pack 3 and a committee member of Boy Scout Troop 3, and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. William was an avid lover of birds, who enjoyed swimming and fishing. He excelled at diving, and passed that skill on to his sons. Mr. Pogany was a proud Army Veteran of WWII. He was member of the Lions Club and received their Citizen of the Year Award and a member of the Rotary Club, where he was selected as Man of the Year.Son of the late Louis and Elizabeth (Buchek) Pogany, and father of the late Michael Pogany, he is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Barbara (Brann) Pogany, he is survived by 2 sons and a daughter in law, Rick and Joan Pogany and Scott Pogany (and his fiancée April), a daughter and son in law Robin and Joe Cavanaugh, eleven grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and his cat Gizmo.Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial mass at 11 AM on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at St. Joseph the Worker Church, 9172 New Falls Rd., Levittown, PA 19054. Interment with military honors will follow at 1 PM in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.Friends may call prior to the mass from 10-11 AM at the church.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in Mr. Pogany's name be made to The Boy Scouts of America, Bucks County Council, 1 Scout Way, Doylestown, PA 18901 or to Chandler Hall Hospice, 99 Barclay St., Newtown, PA 18940.Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the J. Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel, Morrisville, PA (www.hooperfuneralchapel.com).
