Shirley J. Robinson (bacon)

October 12, 1932 — March 23, 2013

Shirley Jo Robinson, 80, of Newtown, Pennsylvania, was released from her pain on Saturday, March 23, 2013, after a long illness. The only child of Charles Wesley Bacon and Florence (Wing) Bacon, of Augusta, Kansas, Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Stanley Arthur Robinson, at the age of 19, and they had three children. They divorced after their children were grown, but they never really parted ways. For a woman who grew up in a small midwestern town, Shirley had a huge spirit of adventure, and she got out and saw a lot of the world. She traveled to South America, Europe and the Middle East. She lived in El Polito, Venezuela, Orchard Park, New York, and Haddon Heights, New Jersey before settling in Newtown. She was a fastidious homemaker who taught her children how to "deep clean" a house. To this day, her eldest son has what he thinks of as "Shirley" days when he scrubs his home from top to bottom. She was no gourmet cook, but she made certain dishes that brought warmth to the heart as well as the stomach: her meatloaf and mashed potatoes, for example. Best of all, though, was the cold fried chicken she packed for road trips. As a woman who knew exactly what she wanted, she was always a fearless fighter. Even in her final days, when confined to a hospital bed, Shirley told her burly male nurse, "If you don't bring me a tall glass of ice water right now, I will kick your butt."She loved animals, big jewelry, beautiful objects, "people watching," off-color stories and visits to the seashore and New York City. Perhaps her greatest love, though, was for her youngest granddaughter, Stephanie Robinson, whom she treasured and raised as if she were her own daughter. She is survived by her children - Kenton Kraig Robinson of New London, Connecticut, T. Kim Robinson of Philadelphia and Kurt Andres Robinson of Morrisville, Pennsylvania - and three grandchildren: Gabrielle Gilby Robinson and Max Halbren Robinson, of West Hartford, Connecticut, and Stephanie, of Morrisville. Also, she is survived by her ex-husband, Stanley, also of Morrisville.Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service at 11 AM on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the J. Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel, 41 W. Trenton Ave., Morrisville, PA. There will be no calling hours, and the interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
