Robert Lopez, born on May 23, 1985, in Brooklyn, New York, passed away suddenly on February 2,
2026, while serving on active duty with the United States Marine Corps in Carlsbad, California. He
held the esteemed rank of Gunnery Sergeant and dedicated the last 13 years of his life to serving
his country with honor and integrity. In recognition of his exceptional performance of duty and
demonstrated leadership, he was posthumously promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant, a reflection
of the respect he earned and the example he set.
Reserved by nature, Robert expressed his character in thoughtful and deliberate ways. He was not
one for many words, and you often wouldn't know he was in the room until he chose to speak. But
when he did, it was genuine and meaningful.
Those closest to him knew the quieter depths beneath his composed exterior: a dry, understated
humor, a rare but unmistakable laugh, and a heart that softened easily around family. In the
moments that mattered most, that depth revealed itself, in his loyalty, his protectiveness, and in
the steady, unwavering way he showed up for those he loved.
He believed deeply in growth and possibility, and in the strength of those he cared about. He
shared that belief generously, encouraging others, often without fanfare, to become better versions
of themselves.
In one of his final visits with his mother, knowing her time was near, he sat beside her and cared
for her gently, speaking in a softened voice, a quiet moment that reflected the depth of his
compassion and love.
In honoring his memory, his family will gather for a private service. His interment with military
honors will take place at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newton, Pennsylvania.
Robert leaves behind a family profoundly proud of the man he became, a son, brother, an uncle, and
a Marine whose quiet strength and steadfast love will not be forgotten.
