Rev. John H. Francisco Jr.

The Rev. John H. "Jack" Francisco, Jr., age 79, of Blowing Rock, NC, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, in Yardley Pennsylvania, with his wife, Mary Lou, and family by his side. Born in Tarrytown, NY, Rev. Francisco lived in Medina, NY for 30 years before retiring to Blowing Rock.Jack graduated from Lehigh University in 1956, earning a B.A. in History, and later received his M.A. in Theology from the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. He worked as a student pastor at the First Presbyterian Church of New Waterford, OH, and was ordained into the ministry on May 19, 1963 at Hope Presbyterian Church in Tarrytown, NY. He was then installed and served for seven years as Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Mineral Ridge, OH. In 1970 he was called to Medina, NY where he served the First Presbyterian Church until his retirement in 1999. His love for ministry and theology compelled him to continue his education at Union Seminary (Richmond VA), Princeton Theological Seminary (Princeton, NJ) and Rochester-Colgate Divinity School (Rochester, NY) where he worked toward his Doctorate in Theology. Jack served in the US Armed forces on active duty from 1957 to 1959 and was a Mason with Medina Lodge #336 F&A.M. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid golfer, winning the 1973 club championship at Shelridge Country Club in Medina. Within the community, he served as President of the local American Red Cross, Medina Area Association of Churches and Medina Clergy Fellowship. He was member of the Genesee Valley Presbytery in Rochester, NY where he served on numerous committees and was appointed as a delegate to General Assembly in 1988. Jack actively participated on the village cemetery committee and on a number of community fundraising programs, including initiation of hospice into Orleans County. He encouraged members to participate in community programs such as meals on wheels, the Christmas gift fund and the food pantry. Jack lived his life following the famous words of the Quaker, William Penn, which were posted on his office wall: "I expect to pass through life but once, if therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again." Son of the late John H., Sr. and Alice (Merritt) Francisco, and father of the late Janice Ann Francisco, he is survived by his loving wife Mary Lou (DeLucca) Francisco, daughters, Jeanne M. (Judson) Shutt of Wayne, PA, and Kathy A. Francisco (Morris Richardson) of Yardley, PA, a son John M. (Shelane) Francisco of Westminster, MD, sister Joan Kelly of Simpsonville, S.C., seven grandchildren; Stephen, Alexandra, Madeline, John, Josee, Jared, and Maleek, and many nieces and nephews.Relatives and friends are invited to attend services in Medina, New York on November 2, 2013. Interment will be at Boxwood Cemetery at 10:30 am, a Celebration of life service at the First Presbyterian Church at 1:30 pm followed by a reception in the fellowship hall at church. Services will be officiated by Rev. Alfreda Morse, Rev. Robert Kaiser and Rev. Dr. Stephen Devine. Funeral arrangements have been made by the J. Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel in Morrisville, PA and Cooper Funeral Home in Medina, NY. Memorial contributions in Rev. Francisco's name may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Medina, NY, 522 Main St, PO Box 213, Medina, NY 14103.
