Leonard Gabriele

March 19, 2014 Obituary of Leonard "Gabe" Gabriele Leonard "Gabe" Gabriele, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at his son's home in Morrisville. He was 91. Born September 4, 1922 in Trenton, he was the son of the late Matteo and Maria (Migliaccio) Gabriele. In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Mildred (Taylor) Gabriele, a brother Angelo M. Gabriele who perished on the USS West Virginia at Pearl Harbor at the beginning of WWII, and two sisters, Josephine Di Pietro and Carmella (Mae) Maffezoli. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. At first he loaded ammunition on war ships in New York Harbor, and later served on a destroyer in the Pacific. He was also a member of the U.S. Navy Boxing Team. Leonard began his career working for C&R Trucking of Trenton as a tractor-trailer driver before becoming the owner/operator of his own business, Gabriele Paper Recycling, and was also affiliated with John D'Orazio & Sons of Philadelphia. He was a member of the Italian-American Club in Morrisville, and was an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed horse racing. Mr. Gabriele is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Angelo M. and Joyce Gabriele and Leonard L. and Susan Gabriele, as well as a grandson, Michael L. Gabriele, all of Morrisville. He is also survived by nephews and relatives in Naples, Italy. Services and entombment in St. Mary Cemetery will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
