Jayanand K. Marlapudi

Jayanand K. Marlapudi, respected Lieutenant Colonel (Retd.) and dedicated public servant, passed away on July 15, 2026, in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania. He was born on October 7, 1952, in Hyderabad, India, where his remarkable journey began.

Lt. Col Marlapudi’s early life was distinguished by academic excellence. He attended Saikorian School in India, where he was awarded a gold medal in English Literature, a testament to his lifelong love of learning. He continued his studies, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree (Theology) from Kakatiya University, and later achieving his Master’s degree from Strayer University.

His career exemplified service and leadership. For 25 years, Lt. Col Marlapudi served with honor in the Indian Army, culminating in his retirement at the rank of Colonel. His military tenure was marked by unwavering dedication and commitment to the highest standards of discipline and integrity. After relocating to the United States, he continued his legacy of service, working for the State of Pennsylvania’s Department of Human Services as a case worker for 12 years. In this second career, he brought the same sense of purpose and compassion, helping countless individuals and families.

Philanthropy and generosity were central to Lt. Col Marlapudi’s character. Always seeking to help those around him, he was deeply involved in charity work, spending much of his time uplifting others through acts of kindness.

Family formed the cornerstone of his life. He was devotedly married to his loving wife, Raj Kumari(Vanguri) Marlapudi, for 47 years. Together, they built a strong and supportive family. He is survived by his sons, Joseph Marlapudi, and Jayson Marlapudi & wife Miranda Marlapudi. His grandchildren Gabriel, Galileo, Lincoln, and Maverick were a source of great pride and joy for him, and he cherished the time they spent together. He is also survived by his brother, Dr. Prem K. Marlapudi, and sister-in-law, Grace Marlapudi; his sisters, Rajamani Badampudi and Vijaya Kumari Neekuri; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Raja Rao, his mother, Pushpa Katamma, and youngest brother Raj K Marlapudi.

Lt. Col Marlapudi’s interests were as wide-ranging as his achievements. An avid reader, he delighted in solving crossword puzzles and had a fondness for playing Jeopardy. His creativity was evident in his personal culinary endeavors, and he found relaxation and satisfaction in woodworking, gardening, and freshwater fishing. He also enjoyed traveling, particularly road trips, which provided opportunities for exploration and discovery. During his years in Pennsylvania, he attended the Philadelphia Christian Center in Bensalem and made Bensalem his cherished home for the past 23 years.

Viewing will take place on Monday, July 27, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m at Bensalem Baptist Church, 3351 Richlieu Rd, Bensalem, PA 19020. Funeral services will follow at the same location, beginning at 10:15 a.m. and concluding at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Beechwood Cemetery, 2026 Bensalem Boulevard, Bensalem, PA 19020.

Throughout his life, Jayanand K. Marlapudi’s integrity, empathy, and unwavering devotion to his country, his profession, and most of all his family, left an indelible legacy. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a man of deep principle and boundless warmth.
