Florence (Dempski) White

Florence Dempski White, 101, died at Chandler Hall in Newtown, on Wednesday, May 11, 2022. Born in Edwardsville, Pa., she had lived in Yardley for 67 years. Florence was a member of St. Ignatius of Antioch Catholic Church. She was a co-founder of the Lower Makefield Historical Society, where she served as president for two terms. She also served on the Lower Makefield Historical Commission and was an active preservationist. After her children were grown, she became a freelance writer and had magazine articles published on a variety of topics ranging from antique sleigh bells to needlecraft. She also taught classes on Early American decorative painting to many students.

Daughter of the late Charles and Mary Colapilo Dempski, Florence was predeceased by her husband of 52 years—Dr. Albert Evans White, her sons Joel Evans White and Samuel Albert White, and her brothers Charles Dempski and Robert Dempski. She is survived by her daughters Mary Joy Scala of Charlottesville, Va., and Melanie Rose White of Chevy Chase, Md., along with grandchildren Thomas Scala, his wife Jennifer (Stromann) Scala, Joseph Scala, his wife Erin (Barbour) Scala, Ashley White, Alexander White, Rachael (White) Sandford and her husband Jeffrey Sandford, six great-grandchildren, three nieces, and a nephew.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation on Wednesday, May 18, from 10 to 11 a.m., at St. Ignatius of Antioch, 999 Reading Avenue, Yardley, Pa. 19067, followed by her funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Morrisville Cemetery, South Pennsylvania Avenue and Anderson Avenue, Morrisville, Pa.

Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Ignatius of Antioch.
