Florence Estelle Goldy Toth Brewer

November 13, 1929 — March 14, 2026

Yardley, PA

Florence Estelle Goldy Toth Brewer, of Yardley, PA, passed away peacefully in her home with family by her side on March 14th.

She was born November 13, 1929, in Lakeside Park, Hamilton Township, NJ. The second of three girls, Florence, her older sister Dorothy and younger sister Joan enjoyed the pleasures of living on a lake: ice skating, swimming, and canoeing. She told stories of a pear orchard and creek in her backyard, with chickens and ponies nearby, in a close-knit community she referred to fondly all of her life. She knew the trees and birds, and while raising her two children they also were introduced to the wonders of the natural world.

She was known by a remarkable collection of friends and family as Floss, Flossie, Flo, Auntie Florence and in a nod to her passion for growing roses, Zeffie (her favorite rose was the thornless, fragrant pink climbing rose “Zephirine Drouhin”). Flo endeared herself to her “rose ladies” across the country through her kind words.

Having lost her first husband at an early age, Flo showed strength as a single working mom. An employee of Public Service Electric and Gas and later Bell Telephone for many years as a switchboard operator, she retained a sizable group of work friends who would meet at her home for sweet treats and laughter, enjoying her best Lennox tableware. Wherever she went she was loved.

To her children, she was a gentle guiding hand. Wise, calm, she didn’t react, she considered and moved forward. She listened. She cared. Her parenting style was based in trust. As a young boy her son rode his bicycle a mile to enjoy summer days fishing on the Delaware Canal. Midday she’d bring him a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and cold milk. No worries? A local troublemaker in the neighborhood was invited in for a regular breakfast of pancakes.

She created specialness. Every holiday brought out an expressive, colorful outfit. Who wouldn’t be patriotic when their mom showed up for a cookout as a fireworks display! Wherever she lived became an enchanted place. She nurtured. She grew things. Roses, zinnias, and petunias thrived again and again as if they knew she would care for them. She cultivated friendships and it seemed as if friends had no choice but to be drawn to her warmth. She welcomed neighbors and their children into her “enchanted cottage,” where they marveled at twinkly things, the cuckoo clock, the love. She met the challenges of living with a laugh and a smile.

Flo shared nearly a lifetime with her second husband, who gave her the luxury of retirement and time to quilt, paint watercolors and to garden. Summer vacations on Martha’s Vineyard became another place for her to make friends. A rich, full life indeed.

Florence's life was a garden cultivated with love, wisdom, and quiet strength. Though she has departed this world, the flowers she so tenderly nurtured, the melodies of birds she admired, and the lives she touched will forever bloom in the hearts of all who knew her. Her gentle spirit and enduring love remain a guiding light and a cherished memory.

In her last months, Flo was lovingly cared for by a team including Angie, Li, CC, and Lindita.

Thanks to Suze, who lovingly provided quiche and yoga, and Amanda for keeping Mom beautiful by doing her hair, nails and more. Flo provided the young ladies with humor, wisdom, and friendship in return.

Rosalie, Sandra, Carol, Clover, Jojo, Kathy, Mary and others also provided care for Flo over the years. Charlotte was always available to “Auntie Florence” ordering supplies, a roast chicken, whatever the caregivers needed. Their phone conversations were always filled with laughter.

She is survived by her son, Robert Michael Toth Jr. (Bobby); her daughter, Robyn Elizabeth Smith; her sister Joan O’Hagan; five grandchildren: John N.H. Toth, Maxwell J.H. Toth, Melissa C. Rineer, Eric R. Smith, and Jaren M. Smith; and three great-grandchildren: Elijah Rineer, Eleanor Rineer, and James Konstantinos Toth. In addition, she is remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents, John Maybury and Florence (Yaede) Goldy, her first husband, Robert Michael Toth, and her second husband, Robert Clark Brewer. The memories of them remain treasured by those who knew her.
