Edward Topley Bowden Sr., 81, of Yardley, PA, passed away on June 18, 2026. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and man of faith, Ed lived a life defined by responsibility, loyalty, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved.
Born in Trenton, NJ, to Dr. Joseph M. and Elinor Topley Bowden, Ed graduated from Pennsbury High School before attending St. John Fisher University and Rider University. After college, Ed began a long and accomplished career in engineering and construction with New Jersey Bell, Bell Atlantic, and Verizon. He was proud of his work and respected for his intelligence, integrity, and strong work ethic, but his proudest accomplishments were found beyond his professional life.
Family was the center of Ed's world. He was a devoted husband of 60 years to Andrea and a loving father who never missed a game, performance, or important event.Whether coaching, cheering from the sidelines, or simply being present when he was needed, Ed demonstrated his love through unwavering support and dependability. As his family grew, he carried that same enthusiasm into the next generation, becoming an active and joyful participant in his grandchildren’s activities and milestones. He loved every moment of watching his family grow and thrive. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were his greatest source of pride and joy.
Ed found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. Sports were one of his lifelong passions; cheering on the Flyers, celebrating Eagles wins, or watching a game with his family brought him pure happiness. He loved the energy, the camaraderie, and the shared excitement of being a fan. An avid golfer, Ed loved annual golf trips with his buddies to Myrtle Beach, SC. The beach was Ed’s sanctuary. Any shoreline, any stretch of sand, any place where he could hear the waves and feel the sun brought him peace. Whether he was fishing, golfing, walking along the water, or simply relaxing outdoors, he found joy in being near the ocean and sharing those moments with the people he loved. Some of his family's most cherished memories were made during annual summer vacations to Sea Isle City, NJ, and the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where generations of family gathered to enjoy time together.
Ed valued deep, meaningful friendships, and he and Andrea were blessed with friendships that spanned decades. Friends knew Ed as loyal, dependable, and genuine, a presence who could always be counted upon, and he cherished all the friendships that stayed with him throughout his life.
A man of quiet but steadfast faith, Ed was devoted to the Catholic Church throughout his life. His faith was reflected in the way he lived each day with humility, kindness, gratitude, and a commitment to serving others.
Ed was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Elinor Bowden; his brother, Joseph M. Bowden Jr.; and his infant son, Kevin Michael Bowden.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Andrea; his three children, Jen Ealy and her husband Jim; Ed Bowden and his wife Eileen; and Drew Bowden and his wife Gina Antoniello. His ten grandchildren - Chase Ealy and his wife Mari, Caroline Ealy, Cooper Ealy, Jack Bowden, Abbey Rudolph and her husband Austin, Kate Bowden, Charlotte Bowden, Sarah Bowden, Hattie Bowden, and Mabel Bowden; his two great‑grandchildren, Theodore Ealy and Austin Rudolph, Jr.; and many cousins and close friends.
Though dementia changed much of the life he once knew, it never diminished the love his family held for him or the legacy he leaves behind. That legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the friendships he faithfully nurtured, and the example he set through a life marked by loyalty, quiet strength, enduring faith, and love.
Arrangements are under the direction of the J. Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel in Morrisville, PA.
