It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Roberto T. Carvajal of Yardley, PA at the age of 76 on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York, NY. Born in Cebu City, Philippines, Dr. Carvajal lived in Yardley since 1979.
Dr. Carvajal graduated valedictorian from Sacred Heart School and then attended the University of San Carlos, where he met his beloved wife, Eleanor. He subsequently earned his Doctorate in Medicine from the Cebu Institute of Medicine and achieved the sixth highest national score on the Philippine Medical Board Examination in 1970. Dr. Carvajal completed his fellowship training at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA, went into private practice as a cardiologist, and, most recently, worked at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, PA. He cared for patients in our community for over 40 years.
Although Dr. Carvajal spent his lifetime studying and healing the heart, it was his own heart which defined his life. His kindness, generosity, and patience were boundless. He loved listening to the marches of John Philip Sousa, reciting the poetry of Jose Rizal, and dining in Chinatown. He considered his piano rendition of Begin the Beguine a masterpiece. He enjoyed watching the movies of his childhood, crabbing and clamming at the Jersey shore, discussing military history, and retelling old jokes. He was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and had fond memories of cheering with his sons from the 700 Level at Veterans Stadium. He treasured his time with his Thursday Night Dining Group, loved having pets roam the house, and adored spending time with his grandchildren.
Son of the late Pedro and Sim Carvajal, he is survived by his loving wife Eleanor, his son Richard and wife Liesel of New York, NY, his son Raymond and partner Kim of Mullica Hill, NJ, his brother Eddie and wife Lisa of Bristol, PA, his brother Jerry and wife Nora, as well as his two sisters Lane and Lillian, all of Cebu City, Philippines, his four grandchildren, Caitlin, Patrick, Robert, and Dashiell, and his many nieces and nephews.
Although the family encourages relatives and friends to pay their respects privately due to the coronavirus pandemic, a viewing will be held on Monday, Dec. 21, 2020, from 6 to 8 PM, at the J. Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel, 41 W. Trenton Ave., Morrisville, PA 19067. Masks will be required and social distancing protocols will be enforced.
A service for the family will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020, from 11 to 12 PM, and a live stream of the ceremony will be available at https://www.hooperfuneralchapel.com/obituary/DrRoberto-Carvajal . A Memorial Mass and Celebration of Dr. Carvajal’s life will be held in the Summer of 2021.
