Dr. Javier G. Taboada passed away peacefully at his home in Yardley, Pennsylvania, on September 13, 2026, surrounded by family. He was born on February 20, 1940, in Trujillo, Peru, and later immigrated to the United States in 1966 with his wife Martha.
Married the day after he graduated medical school, they lived in six different states and Canada before settling in Pennsylvania in 1979.
Dr. Taboada built a distinguished life of service in medicine and in the military. He earned his undergraduate and medical degrees with honors from the National University of Trujillo in Peru, continuing his post-graduate medical training at Georgetown University and Cornell University. Dr. Taboada had the unique designation of being dually board certified in Neurology and Psychiatry. He was appointed to his first Chief of Neurology position at the US Public Health Service Hospital in NY. Moving to PA, he established his private practice, which grew into one of the leading neurology group practices in Mercer County, NJ. Over his career, Dr. Taboada served as Chief of Neurology at Helene Fuld Medical Center, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton, and St. Francis Medical Center. He was on the voluntary faculty of the Robert W. Johnson Medical School, as well as an assistant clinical professor at Hahnemann University.
Javier G. Taboada was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a founding member of the American Academy of Neurology. He was also a member of the American Medical Association, the Royal Medical Society (UK), the Association of Military Surgeons of the US, the American Neuropsychiatric Association, and the Society of Neuroimaging.
Dr.Taboada charitably contributed to the community through the Hispanic American Medical Association of Central NJ (HAMA). He never forgot his roots, however, and gave back to his native Peru by teaching and providing free healthcare to underprivileged populations through the Peruvian American Medical Society (PAMS).
Javier G. Taboada served his country with honor as a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army, retiring at the rank of Colonel with the Army Reserves. During his military career, he completed an active tour of duty in Vietnam and aided in the campaign during Operation Desert Storm. He was acting chief surgeon at the US Army 78th Division USAR.
Javier was a man of great faith, exemplified by his lifelong devotion as a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church and his membership in the Knights of Columbus. He was a fervent believer in God, who was the center of his spirit and daily life. His faith was reflected in the way he cared for others, often asking himself, "What will I respond to God when He asks me, 'Why didn't I extend my hand to my neighbor in need?'" This question guided his compassion, generosity, and commitment to serving those around him.
He was preceded in death by his eldest brother Manuel Taboada; eldest sister Esperanza Taboada Rodriguez; youngest brother Ivan Taboada; and his wife of 38 years, Martha E. Rivas Plata Taboada.
Dr. Javier G. Taboada is survived by his loving wife, Mireya J. Molina-Taboada. He is affectionately remembered by his daughters, Lucia Taboada Adams and her husband, Patrick, Martha E. Taboada, Suzanne Taboada Kidder and her husband, Kenneth, and Tina E. Taboada; and by his stepdaughter, Carla McAuliffe and her husband, Charles. He is also survived by his brother, Teodoro Taboada and his sisters, Maria Taboada and Sylvia Taboada Delgado, and her husband Jose Luis. His memory will be cherished by his grandchildren Katarina, Sofia, Jacob, and Andrew; his step-grandchildren Nicholas and Julia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He held a deep appreciation of classical music, was a voracious reader, and especially enjoyed the company of his two cats, Einstein and Newton.
Those who knew Javier will remember a great yet humble man whose life intertwined professional excellence, military distinction, compassion, generosity, and devotion to his immediate and extended family. Javier expressed his care, love, and affection not through words, but through his actions. He was always willing to help others without being asked, quietly extending kindness and support to those in need. He leaves behind a legacy of service, accomplishment, education, and love that will be carried forward by all who were blessed to know him.
