Dorothy Rettman, known as Dot to her friends and Nana to her grandchildren, was a steady source of strength and love to all who knew her. She was cherished by her children, Don Rettman, Lisa Martino, Laura Muka, Robin Birchenough, and Tony Rettman; her son-in-laws, Lawrence Muka and the late Bill Martino; her grandchildren, Olivia Birchenough, Sophia Birchenough, Eva Broyer, Nola Kiernan, Darian Muka, Eliot Muka, and Nathaniel Muka; and her great-grandchildren, Elsie Green and Theodora Broyer. She is reunited with her adoring husband, Theodore C. Rettman, also known as Ted to his friends, or Pop pop by his grandchildren.
Nana found joy in life’s simplest pleasures. She was an avid crossword solver and late-night crime show watcher. She enjoyed cryptograms and teaching others how to decode them. She loved teaching her grandchildren how to knit and crochet, play spider solitaire, and predict the ending of every NCIS episode.
Dorothy’s love will continue to live on through her children and grandchildren, who carry her strength, humor, and devotion with them always. The next time you flip past an old episode of NCIS, we hope you are reminded of the spirited woman that helped raise us all.
