Dorothy Hannigan

Feb 25, 1942 — May 7, 2026

Pennington, NJ

Dorothy Hannigan of Hamilton, NJ passed away on May 7 at Robert Wood Johnson Hospice surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, Dorothy grew up in Morrisville, PA where she attended Cathedral High School and earned an associate’s degree in applied sciences from Mercer County Community College, graduating with honors. She went on to spend time in Washington, DC, ultimately settling in Hamilton, NJ where she was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church.

Dorothy had a long career at Princeton University where she held positions at the School of Engineering and Applied Science, the Princeton University Art Museum and the Liechtenstein Institute of the Woodrow Wilson School until retiring after 35 years of service. Her organizational skills were second to none, and indispensable to many an absent-minded professor.

Throughout her life, she enjoyed traveling to Europe, Canada, and Nova Scotia, as well as various islands and destinations in the US. She often took day trips to museums in New York and Philadelphia and was a fan of historical walking tours. She loved the sunshine, relaxing at the beach, gardening, watching scary movies, and spending time with her family and numerous supportive and beloved friends. She was gentle, wise, and reliable; she cared for her parents, babysat her nieces and nephews, and rarely showed up at anyone’s house empty-handed. The younger generation will remember her for bringing them pizza and boxes of donut holes, painting their nails, and blowing bubbles in the yard. She especially looked forward to holiday family dinners, where her presence will be deeply missed.

Daughter of the late George F. Hannigan, stepfather Joseph Davis and beloved mother, Dorothy Davis, she is survived by her dear sisters, Roberta Wiechnik [Joseph], Marilyn Liese [Frank], two nieces, Debra Liese [Mark], Donna Liese, and two nephews, Christopher Wiechnik [Christine] and Matthew Wiechnik, six grandnieces and two grandnephews, and several special cousins and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather together at 9:45 AM on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, 201 N.
