April Lynn Hynes

April Lynn Hynes, age 50 of Washington Crossing, PA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at Mary’s Place by the Sea in Ocean Grove, NJ.  Born in Norristown, PA, April lived in Washington Crossing for the past 25 years.

She was a graduate of Springfield Township (Montgomery County) High School, Class of 1991.  April was an independent researcher and professional level genealogist with a specific interest in the African diaspora.  She employed these skills to assist her in discovering the Wanderer Slave Ship community and the Kongo connections to the Edgefield Africanized face jug tradition.  She has presented her work at the National Smithsonian Museum, Boston University, and published a recent article, "African American Face Vessels: History and Ritual in 19th Century Edgefield " in Ceramics in America 2013.  A member of the New Hope Community Church, April enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, shopping and interior design.

Daughter of the late William and Joan Carol (Strang) Leopold, April is survived by her loving husband John Hynes, three children Paden R., Isabella A. and Ava G. Hynes, all of Washington Crossing, a brother Eric D. Leopold of Willow Grove, PA, many nieces and nephews and several cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service at 11 AM on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Grace Point Church, 592 Washington Crossing Road, Newtown, PA   18940.  The Rev. Chuck Wilson, Pastor of New Hope Community Church, will officiate.  Light refreshments will be served following the service.  Her interment in Hillside Cemetery, Roslyn, PA, will be held privately.
